Knee injuries are common amongst people from all walks of life, and more so amongst athletes. No matter what you play, over use and over-exertion of the soft tissue and tender knee muscles often result in damage of the kneecap or imbalanced muscles around the knee causing pain. Kinesiology taping is one of the most effective techniques for soothing knee injuries and speeding the recovery and healing process.

The kinesiology taping technique, kinesio tape like flexotape, an elastic therapeutic tape is placed on the area of the calf muscles and affected parts of with special techniques. One does not just place it there. Unlike regular athletic tapes, the kinesio tape creates interstitial space to reduce pressure in the affected area instead of strictly holding the injured area in place. By the reduced pressure, it improves blood circulation and lymph flow thus allowing the body to heal quickly and naturally.

The kinesiology taping process allows the knee to flex and bend freely and helps reduce swelling, redness and edema which often occur as a result of inflammation or direct impact to the knee. As well as helping the muscles and supporting tendons heal after the knee injury, the kinesiology taping technique can also be used for treating overused and strained muscles. Most athletes use the Kinesiology tape on their knees, wrists and shoulders and back as a preventative measure against injuries. Some even wear it to keep their muscles relaxed after intense and extensive training.

Whether you are planning to use the kinesio taping process to treat knee injuries or the sprain in your foot, lower back, shoulders, or wrists, or for reducing any other muscular or fascial pain, it is important to apply the kinesio tape in the right manner. The application and technique of the kinesiology tape depends on the nature of the pain or injury. It is therefore advisable to consult with a professional therapist or trainer certified in myofascial kinesiology taping before using the kinesio tape. The professional therapist or medical practitioner will demonstrate you how to wrap your knee properly using the Kinesio tape to ensure that the tape works as it should and that your body heals itself quickly.
